Bicycle Race Takes Hilarious Turn As Ostrich Joins In, And Runs At Over 30 Miles Per Hour

What began as a normal day for a group of cycling friends, quickly turned into a hilarious scene right out of a movie. As the friends were cycling down the Cape of Good Hope in preparation for the Cape Argus Tour in South Africa, and unexpected competitor decided to make a sudden entry. This newcomer was a giant Ostrich!

Luckily, one of the cyclists had a camera attached to him and managed to record this incredible scene.

Things just got funnier and funnier as the Ostrich really began to enjoy the exercise and chased after the men for many miles. At one point, it even looked like the bird was going to win the race, but he decided to let the cyclists have their victory, and veered off of the road.

According to Wikipedia, “Ostriches are superb runners that can sprint at speeds of up to 45 mph on average, with a peak 60 mph during short periods, with 12-foot strides. This also makes the ostrich the fastest animal on two legs. The ostrich is also an endurance runner and can jog at 30 mph for as long as half an hour.” WHOA!

So this Ostrich was just “jogging” and still managed to keep up with professional bicycle racers! WOW!

To watch this Ostrich having a field day, watch the video below! It’s awesome!
