Stranger Gives Mouth-To-Snout Resuscitation To Older Pit Bull Who Nearly Drowned

When New York City resident Holly DeRito heard people screaming while out with her Chihuahuas, the dog lover’s instincts kicked in.

Holly ran to see what was happening and that’s when she saw a Pit Bull being pulled from the water.

Holly told The New York Post she heard someone scream “Call 911” and then witnessed the owners saying “No, no, no, please, no!”

A man pulled the dog from the water, but 12-year-old Bella was not breathing, went limp, and was completely unresponsive.

The 911 operator told them the call was not an emergency and to call 311 instead.

Rescuers tried to give the dog CPR and that’s when Holly stepped in.

“I started putting my hand to her mouth and listen to see if she was breathing, and finally she took a little breath and coughed a little bit and started breathing,” she shared.

While one man did compressions, Holly breathed life into the dog’s nose. She cupped the dog’s mouth shut and breathed into her nostrils.

After 10 minutes of working on the pooch, Bella’s owners scooped her up and took her to a veterinarian.

Although Holly gave the couple her phone number, she hasn’t heard anything. She is happy, however, that she helped to save Bella.

“The ickiness was discarded from my mind, because a little bit of icky doesn’t matter when you’re trying to save a life,” she stated.

You are a true hero and role model, Holly!
