Dog spent two days freezing in winter to protect human baby abandoned in the cold

Dogs are amazing creatures. Even if they can’t talk or express their ideas the same way humans do, they are still able to connect with us.

And surprisingly, they can appear almost anywhere they are needed. Just take the story of one baby saved by a loyal dog as an example.

A 2-year-old baby was abandoned on the family’s front porch in the middle of a cold winter.

To make things worse, the baby boy was left in an unheated porch and the temperature that day was recorded to be minus 12C to minus 21C.

Any adult would find it hard to stay warm in such an environment.

Fortunately, a dog was there.

Without anyone telling him what to do, the dog carefully wrapped his body around the baby.

He didn’t leave the baby’s side for two full days. He just stayed there, snuggling the little boy to keep him warm.

After two days, neighbors found the baby and the dog.

Realizing the dangers of being exposed to extremely low temperatures, the neighbors immediately rushed the baby to the hospital.

As expected, he suffered from acute hypothermia but he responded well to the treatment.

Extremely low temperatures are dangerous for the body. Any healthy adult who’s not properly dressed for such condition can experience hypothermia in as fast as 10 minutes.

And once that happens, the body temperature drops and your critical organs may stop working properly. This includes your heart and your brain.

Once the heart stops functioning properly, the flow of blood to the rest of your organs decreases, too.

These things can put your entire system in a state of shock where you become at risk of kidney failure and liver failure.

Compared with adults, babies can develop hypothermia faster because they tend to lose heat faster.

They have a much larger surface area in comparison to their body weight.

The little boy was indeed lucky for having a loyal dog take care of him during a critical time.

Without the dog, he could have ended up with a lot more serious problems than plain hypothermia.

Plus, without food, he couldn’t have endured another day or two. It’s a good thing that his neighbors look out for other homes, too.

The mother of the baby returned four days after he was found. She was investigated in a criminal case as she’s being accused of deliberately leaving her baby.

If proven guilty, she might end up in jail and lose the right to raise her baby.

The hero dog, on the other hand, doesn’t have a name. But thanks to him, the baby was able to survive.
