Dairy cows are born into a life of constant servitude. They are bred several times for the sake of harvesting milk for dairy products, while their newborn calves are cruelly separated from them after birth.
When the cows stop producing milk altogether, they are deemed “useless” and packed off to the nearest slaughterhouse.

Emma, a gentle cow from Germany, had lived a similar life of endless exploitation. However, she was always loving and loyal toward her owners.
But the day Emma outlived her purpose as a dairy cow, the slaughterhouse truck arrived at the farm to pick her up.

Emma had always known that cows don’t come back once they enter the slaughterhouse truck.
She realizes her merciless fate as she’s loaded into the truck, and starts shedding huge tears as grief consumes her mind.
She keeps crying until her eyes are swollen. Some kind locals see this and contact the Kuhrettung Rhein-Berg Sanctuary to help her.

In this video, we see the precious moment when the sanctuary workers rescue Emma and set her free in an open field for the first time in her life.
Emma will be spending the rest of her days in the company of other rescued cows, and she’ll never have another reason to cry!
