Man Took A Bat To His Head For Stepping In Front Of Child To Protect Him

The one thing we have learned about animals, especially large dogs that look like Falkor, is that people make assumptions. Usually, those assumptions are dead wrong.

In Falkor’s case, an assumption was made by a human that didn’t know him– and that assumption cost Falkor dearly.

Dallas Dog RRR posted Falkor’s story to their Facebook page. The rescue group was devastated by what transpired. Here is the story in their words:

Although Falkor did not attack/bite/injure any person, Falkor was severely beaten by a man who was not the owner of him. Although this vicious attack against the dog was not warranted, the perpetrator knew the “right words” to use when questioned by authorities. The State of Texas Penal Code on fear of dog attacks and/or threats to your safety are very vague at best.

In claiming “Self Defense”, and the owners dropping charges … authorities could not pursue animal cruelty charges against the person who savagely attacked Falkor.

Falkor’s only fault was that he ran outside of the front door of his home. We want to clarify that a child in the neighborhood was involved. The child was not attacked by Falkor in any fashion and was/is safe. Falkor loves children. He saw the child and approached him for affection, or to play.

The person who beat Falkor to near-death felt it necessary to come outside and approach the dog and child with a baseball bat. Falkor stepped in front of the child, offering protection, as he did not know what this person’s intent was.

Falkor only knew he felt it necessary to protect this child from possible harm. Little did Falkor know, he would receive a beating so severe it would fracture his skull, his orbital socket, crush his jaw, and leave him moments from death.

If Falkor had to do this over again, we know whole-heartedly he would go through the horrific beating all over again.

Dallas Dog RRR asked for donations for Falkor’s treatment and thankfully kind people stepped forward to help with his surgery and medical expenses. To say Falkor was savagely beaten is an understatement.

Yet he continued to fight to live. Maybe he understood that his job protecting others wasn’t over. Maybe he knew, in his big doggy heart, that giving in and dying would let that cruel man win.

Whatever the case, the brave dog clung on and went through surgery after surgery… AND LIVED!

His eye needed to be removed and his jaw needed reconstruction. Falkor took on each challenging surgery like a champ. Despite being a senior dog, he had the strength of a lion.

After nearly two weeks at the medical center, he went onto medical foster care. With a smile on his face!

Donations continued to pour in. Falkor’s story touched the hearts of so many people, and for good reason. Just a few weeks after the attack, Falkor is able to walk around and seems to be in much less pain.

Isn’t it amazing that he has no ill will towards other humans? Only a dog could be that incredibly forgiving.

The best news was just around the corner. Adoption applications came pouring in for Falkor. Dog lovers were amazed by his tenacity, protective nature, and his sweet demeanor. Once medically cleared, Falkor went to his NEW forever home.

While this gruesome attack is unforgivable– especially since no one was legally held responsible– we are thrilled that Falkor got his own revenge, BY SURVIVING and NOW THRIVING!

Take the time to watch the story below. Some images are upsetting but we promise Falkor miraculously recovers!
