A fire on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula destroyed 193,000 acres of forest. Firefighters were bulldozing to help contain the fire when they heard some yipping noises coming from nearby.
What they found was precious.

They attempted to find the wolf parents, but they abandoned the pups during the fire.

The pups were dehydrated so they were given water and glucose.

They were also covered with porcupine quills, probably from a porcupine trying to hide from the fire in the same den as the pups.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game and refuge personnel removed them from the area and took them to the Anchorage Zoo. Here they would spend a few months regaining their health before finding permanent residence at the Minnesota Zoo.

It’s great to see such loving care put into wild animals! While it’s sad that the parents abandoned the pups, they will live happy and healthy lives from this point forward. 🙂
