Mama Dog Sulked In Shelter For 400 Days After All Of Her Pups Got Adopted

Lola, a former stray Pit Bull ended up getting pregnant when she was less than a year old. After giving birth to six puppies, she tried her best to care for them while living on the streets.

Eventually, Lola and her babies ended up in Arizona’s Humane Society of Wickenburg last September. All of her puppies got adopted fairly quickly, but Lola remained in the shelter.

For an entire year, Lola was overlooked by potential adopters, and watched many other dogs get adopted before her.

Lola is such a sweet dog who loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. Shelter staff couldn’t believe that no one wanted to welcome this affectionate pup into their home.

Staff refused to give up on finding Lola a home, and after she had been there for 400 days, they contacted the Arizona Humane Society in Phoenix for help.

The Humane Society has a “Project Reachout” program, where they take in sick and abused pets who need help, but they decided to make an exception for Lola.

The Humane Society of Wickenburg is in a very small town with a population of just 8,000 people, which made Lola’s chances of ever getting adopted even slimmer.

The Humane Society in Phoenix knew that she would have a much better chance of finding a home in a bigger city with way more people, so they agreed to take her in.

Once Lola arrived in Phoenix, staff posted her story online in the hopes that a family would want to adopt her.

As soon as the Perry family saw her story, they knew they wanted to meet her. It was love at first sight and they ended up adopting Lola and surprising their young daughter.

After 400 days in the shelter, Lola is finally home!

“This lucky 2-year-old Pittie is now residing with her new family in Mesa, AZ and is a perfect example of the importance of collaboration between rescues and shelters to help save as many homeless pets’ lives as possible!” Arizona Humane Society wrote on Facebook. “Just this year alone, AHS has transferred in almost 900 pets in need from other shelters, just like Lola, through its Project Reachout Program. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl and her new family!”

H/T to Today.
