Loyal Blue Heeler Protected Toddler for 16 Hours in Remote Countryside

A very good boy named Max earned the praise of a thankful family and the local police recently—and made the news worldwide. This 17-year-old (!) blue heeler kept his human toddler sister warm and safe when she wandered into the Queensland countryside alone.

Very good dog Max

Police and over 100 volunteers scoured the mountainous area overnight after the 3-year-old girl was reported missing.

“He never left her sight. She smelled of dog, she slept with the dog.”

Aurora, the missing girl, was found over a mile away from home at the top of a mountain. Her grandma, Leisa Bennett, was the lucky rescuer who heard Aurora call in response to her shout. At the same time, Max the dog ran downhill to lead Leisa to Aurora’s side. Good dog!

Max is no spring chicken, either! The 17-year-old cattle dog is mostly blind and deaf, which makes his loyalty and care all the more precious.
