Heroic Man Runs Into Burning Home To Save His Best Friend Who Was Trapped Inside

Mark Woodbury went to run a few quick errands but he could never have expected what he’d return home to.

Right before his eyes was black smoke pouring out of the back window of his New South Wales home, accompanied by the smell of burning wood.

The first thing he thought of was his beloved German Shepherd, Ditch, who was still in the house.

“There was no way I was going to let my dog burn to death,” Woodbury told Maitland Mercury.

Without hesitation, Mark bravely ran into his burning home to save his four-year-old rescue pup. But saving him would not be an easy feat.

The thick smoke quickly filled the home, and the heat from the flames was unbearable. It took Woodbury three different attempts of running through his house to find Ditch.

On his third and final attempt, he managed to make it to Ditch and swiftly carried him out onto the driveway where he tried to resuscitate him. Thankfully, they were able to bring him back thanks to a paramedic and a mask ventilator.

Ditch was rushed to the veterinary emergency department at the RSPCA in Rutherford where he received treatment and remained in stable condition.

As for Woodbury’s house, everything was destroyed but he says what matters most is that his best friend is alive.

Thankfully, Woodbury’s wife and three kids were not at home at the time of the fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue are investigating the fire and believe it may have been caused by an electricity fault.
