One of the worst decisions a pet parent can face is whether or not they can afford to keep their dog. That’s exactly what a woman in Harwinton, Connecticut, dealt with recently. She fell on hard times and was forced to live in her car for months. She was unable to properly care for her three-year-old dog, Fatty McFat.

After she attempted many times to rehome the dog, she left him outside a local veterinarian’s office, along with a note, hoping they would give the dog a chance at a better life. The folks at Litchfield Hills Veterinary Hospital saw the sweet Pit Bull, all alone, scared, waiting for help to arrive.
The dog had been well-cared for. He had toys, his favorite blanket, a clean crate, and bowls filled with water and food. The note broke the hearts of everyone who read it.

The note says:
“My name is Fatty McFat. I am aggressive only because I’m scared. My owner loves me very much, I am their life! My human went homeless & found out they have a disease & cannot care for me. Please don’t judge them. They tried to rehome me on many documented attempts, no one cared! Attempted the vet, they did not care! Call police & dog warden, did not care! I know my human loves because they were & are the only one who gave every attempt to save me, love me, and pamper me.
It is not fair for me to live in a car for 2 months & my human cries everyday that they are sorry & love me. I am very, very overly protective of my human & will bite anyone who comes near them or I feel is a threat. My human went homeless due to my biting. All my human wants is for me to have a chance, be treated w/ care, dignity & love no matter the outcome. My human is heartbroken & very sad it has come to this. No one would help. –Fat McFat”
After a medical checkup, Fatty McFat was transferred to the no-kill shelter The Simon Foundation. In turn, the group contacted the dog’s original owner, stating they would take care of the pooch until she got back on her feet. If she could not take the dog back, he would go up for adoption.

A local news station, Channel 3, tracked the original owner down. She secured full-time employment and is planning to get her dog back when life improves for her.
