He Didn’t Want The Hassle Of A Pregnant Dog, So He Dumped Her Outside Coffee Shop

A Dunkin’ Donuts outlet in Santa Fe, New Mexico, recently became the scene of a callous act of animal abandonment. Surveillance camera captured an unidentified man dumping his “very pregnant” dog outside the outlet, before casually ordering a cup of coffee and driving off.

Police combed through the footage and saw the man parking his vehicle and forcing the dog out. However, the license plate escaped the camera’s coverage. The man was then seen walking towards the shop, while his untied dog followed him in the parking lot.

After getting his coffee, the man came back to his vehicle. He ignored the loyal dog waiting for him and sped away without her. The dog was visibly disturbed as she stood on the walkway trying to process what happened. She was later found with a note on her collar saying “I’m free I’m having babies”.

The dog was taken in by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society. Medical examination could not reveal if the dog was in the early stages of pregnancy or if she was suffering from a uterine infection. Meanwhile, police have asked the public to spread the word and help in identifying the owner.

Update: Thankfully, the friendly dog did not have to wait too long to get adopted. She is being pampered in her new forever home now. Her previous owner also couldn’t stay hidden for long. He has come forward and agreed to pay a penalty for animal neglect and an additional surrender fee.

On December 26, 2017 at approximately 07:26 AM City Animal Services received a call stating a man left a dog in the parking lot of Dunkin Donuts located at 1085 S. St. Francis. The dog had a note left on it stating “I’m free I’m having babies”. Upon Animal Services arrival surveillance footage was provided showing a man in a dark colored Chevy Venture style van. The male opened his door and let the dog out of the vehicle with the note attached to its neck. The man then proceeded to go into Dunkin Donuts and order a cup of coffee. The dog followed the man from the vehicle to the front door of the business but was ignored by the man. Footage was not available of the man driving up to or driving away from the business so a license plate was not obtained. Animal Services would like any help in identifying the man seen in the video. At this time it is unknown if the dog is in fact in early stages of pregnancy or if she is suffering from a uterine infection, she is under the care of licensed veterinarians at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and will be under hold and observation.
