Sudie is a five-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund who belongs to Jessa McCauley of Spencer County, Indiana. McCauley works as an office manager for the It Takes A Village Pet Rescue, so she sees a lot of animals in need. Sudie came into McCauley’s life because her owner didn’t know she was pregnant.
“I got Sudie because a lady called (ITV) looking for a place for her,” McCauley shared. “Her neighbor had given (the dog) to her without telling her it was pregnant. She needed a foster home.”

Sudie wound up giving birth to a litter of three healthy puppies, but that’s where the story gets interesting. At the same time, McCauley got word of two newborn kittens whose mama cat was unable to nurse them.
“When animals have babies they have some pretty strong maternal instincts,” McCauley stated. “I was hoping Sudie would let the kittens nurse, but it’s more about just having that maternal presence — a warm, nurturing place for them to be.”

Now Sudie the Chiweenie is nursing three puppies and two kittens like a champ. Though the kittens still require some bottle feeding, they will eventually get new homes when they are old enough.
Ironically, when McCauley’s husband, Sean, met her 10 years ago, he knew what road lay ahead. She was working at a zoo at the time, so he proposed to her there.
