Newly Adopted Dog Won’t Quit Growling. Nervous Owner Makes Terrifying Discovery

Before Kailey was a loving family dog, she spent more than a year being passed over by humans in a shelter. The longer Kailey spent in the shelter isolated and alone, the more wary she became of people.

Thankfully one family decided to take a chance on Kailey as her time was nearing her end at the shelter and doing so actually saved their lives…

Before Kailey was adopted into her “furever” home, she was fostered by Jacqueline Berlin. When no one else could see the potential in Kailey, Jacqueline understood there was a loving creature beneath the timid behavior.

Jacqueline told Fox 5 Atlanta why people were put off by Kailey.

“Her one issue was that something has happened to her in in her past so that if you try to touch her and she did not know you she would snap at you. Because of her issue it was really hard to get her adopted.”

After months of being in Jacqueline's foster home, she posted a picture on Facebook appealing to shy humans. Jacqueline wrote that, while Kailey makes a rough first impression, there is sweetness under it all – just like human introverts!

Jacqueline's message reached people all over the country, but it hit a chord with Suzy Chandler. Suzy explained that the moment she read Jacqueline's plea, she knew her home would be ideal for Kailey.

“The story of what she had been through and it just pulled on our heartstrings, we just thought we would be the perfect people for her. It was a perfect match.”

Suzy immediately scheduled a meet-and-greet with Kailey and just moments after playing, Suzy announced that she would gladly take Kailey home!

Little did she know that Kailey would save her life.

As the days passed, Kailey became more and more accepting of her new owners. Suzy watched proudly as Kailey began to bond with her other pup and slowly started to show affection toward humans!

Despite her progress, it was clear Kailey still held some reservations about people – most of the time she kept to herself and avoided human contact. That's why Suzy was so surprised when Kailey started acting up one evening.

Suzy told Fox 5 Atlanta what happened on that fateful night.

“All of a sudden she just started barking and looking at us and growling, like trying to get our attention and I said well what's the matter with her…

She pulled me directly over to the side yard. Right away I smelled overpowering gas and a loud whooshing sound.”

Kailey sensed a massive gas leak right outside of Suzy's yard. Without Kailey's keen sense, Suzy and the rest of the families nearby would have been in serious danger.
