Man Wants More Family-Friendly Crowd To Come To Racetrack, Then He Has The Idea To Race Bulldogs

There is a city in Minnesota where a very special, unique race takes place each year — at the Canterbury Park horse track.

And, no, it’s not a horse race.

Nor is it a race between a group of people. It’s not a run like the famous “Running Of The Bulls” in Spain. No, this is the Running Of The Bulldogs.

Yes, bulldogs.

“We were doing wiener dog races for a while, and it’s popular with families and kids,” VP Of Marketing John Groen said. “We wanted to appeal to people who may not come out to the track for another reason.”

Indeed, a whopping four dozen bulldogs, with help from their owners, compete in this race, each of them trying to be the top dog in order to win the coveted prize: a trophy, $50, and a T-bone steak!

Forget the money and the trophy — for a dog, a steak is motivation enough to give it their all!

The title of champion this year belongs to Frank The Tank, who blew past the competition.

“I knew he was fast. But I didn’t realize how fast he actually was,” said Tricia Olson, Frank’s owner. “Can’t wait to defend our title next year.”
