Dog Who Only Survived By Eating Rocks And Twigs Gets A Miracle Rescue
A dog named Alex was found wandering the streets of New Orleans. He was taken to Vermillion Parish’s Rabies Animal Control, weighing a shocking 43 pounds!
Alex was so skinny that when Deanna Theis, assistant director of the Southern Animal Foundation, saw his picture, she was shocked that he was still alive. Theis knew he wouldn’t survive unless he was pulled from the shelter, so that’s exactly what she did!
Alex underwent a complete medical workup. During his x-rays, it was revealed that the poor pup had been surviving on rocks and twigs to fill his tummy. How heartbreaking!
His condition was uncertain. His body wasn’t used to normal nutrition and his stomach flipped inside his body when normal food was introduced. Alex’s survival was questionable. 🙁
Alex had to have immediate surgery to remove the rocks and twigs and repair his stomach. Amazingly, Alex pulled through! What an incredible dog!
Once Alex was well enough to leave the medical center, he went into foster care with Diane Lundeen. When she met Alex, she fell in love with him right away. And Alex fell in love with Diane too! In just a week, Alex gained 10 whole pounds. WHOOOT!
The family grew so attached to Alex, they knew they had to officially adopt him. Alex is now 80 pounds. He doesn’t wince in pain when he goes to sit down. He has so much life in his eyes.
Alex’s miraculous recovery is proof that no matter how hard things get, a happy ending is still possible!
