Shelter Euthanizes Wrong Pit Bull, Owner Says The Story Doesn’t Make Sense

When dog owner Kim Wright got home from work recently, she found a pink notice taped to her front door.

The Montgomery Humane Society noted an officer picked up her dog, which was running loose earlier that morning.

When she called the shelter to pick up her dog, the pooch, named Vinnie, was not in his kennel.

Wright asked if her pup was able to break free from the shelter or perhaps make a break for the exit.

A shelter worker ensured the woman they would mount a search for him. In the meantime, Wright took to social media about the nightmare.

She just wanted her animal back safe and sound.

Sadly, just a few short hours after picking Vinnie up, the shelter mistook him for another dog slated to be euthanized that day.

Vinnie was put down in error. Wright got to see her Pit Bull’s body, which was pulled from a deep freezer.

The devastated dog mom feels this all happened too fast. Vinnie was picked up at 9:45 in the morning and put down in the afternoon.

“I broke down,” Wright shared. “That’s my dog. I think it’s harder for my son. My son looked at Vinnie like a best friend. It is hard for me to see my child go through that.”

The shelter takes responsibility for the mistake and called it a “devastating incident.”

Executive Director, Steven Tears reported this happened only one other time in the 15 years he worked at the facility.

Wright thinks something is seriously wrong.

“Everything is not adding up to me,” Wright reported. “I feel like there’s a piece of the story that is missing. It just happened too fast. There’s no excuse for him to get picked up at 9:45, and when I get off work at 2:30, he’s no longer around.”

Our deepest condolences go out to Kim on the heartbreaking loss.
