Pit Bull About To Give Birth Eludes Capture, Darts Between Cars On Highway

Waltzing Matilda is lucky to be alive, and she has a very caring good Samaritan to thank for it. Waltzing Matilda is the name of a once-homeless stray Pit Bull who eluded capture for weeks.

A kind person first spotted the dog on a busy Oakland, California highway with no collar, dirty and afraid, darting in and out of traffic. Animal Control tried to save her but failed. That’s when Rocket Dog Rescue got involved.

On their Instagram page, Rocket Dog Rescue’s founder, Pali Boucher wrote, “For over three weeks we took shifts going by to build up trust by laying on the grass and feeding her lil fast food nuggets. Dozens of people watching over her but no one able to get her close enough, and we were racing against the clock as every day her belly grew bigger.”

Waltzing Matilda was very pregnant and looked like she could give birth at any time. Finally, the volunteers lured her to a parking lot, closed the gate, and each person covered the escape routes. Within a short time, she was safely inside a kennel.

On Valentine’s Day, the sweet pooch gave birth to a litter of seven healthy little babies. She is a great mama and cleans and nuzzles her pups.

Rocket Dog Rescue shared, “The volunteers who hold pups, clean poop, repair fences, put up posters, jump in cars at a moment’s notice, my heart is with yours.”

Pali plans to care for the mama dog and her pups and within 10 weeks hopes to adopt them all out. Congratulations and thanks to all who helped this sweet Pit Bull and her babies!
