Fearful Wild Horse Risks Her Freedom To Bring Back The Baby She Lost

When a young filly became separated from her mother, both animals were understandably distraught. The two horses are part of a large herd of wild mustangs that live on the Virginia range.

During a commotion, the foal, named Holly G, wandered into a fenced-in area and became trapped.

Thankfully a group of volunteers specifically trained to rescue wild horses was called in to help. It took a while, and a lot of effort, but they managed to corral the foal inside their trailer.

While the volunteers did their part, another group worked to locate the wild herd so that Mom and baby could be reunited.

The herd was luckily nearby. The volunteers humanely fenced them in so when the foal arrived, Mom would be right there to greet her.

What they didn’t expect, which you will witness in the video below, was how incredibly sweet the reunion would be!

Normally, wild horses are timid around humans. Volunteers do their part to care for the horses but respect these boundaries.

The reunion was expected to go a lot differently since the herd would normally flee from the approaching trailer. Instead, the exact opposite happened!

The American Wild Horse Campaign wrote on their Facebook page, “When the trailer with the foal inside pulled up to the area where the band was enclosed, a wild mare whinnied to her baby and even stepped right into the scary trailer to retrieve her.”

The reunion, thankfully recorded on video, shows Mom whinnying to her foal and Holly G whinnying back.

But the best part of all is that wild horses won’t ever go up to a trailer… and the beautiful mare didn’t hesitate to approach and then enter the trailer herself to get to her baby!

It’s truly magical.

We are so happy that Mom and babe are back together. Thank you to the American Wild Horse Campaign for their extraordinary efforts. See the touching video below!

Wild Mare Reunited with Her Foal

Several days ago, a young filly named Holly G became separated from her family inside of a fenced area. After several attempts to access her, volunteers trained in rescue ultimately set up a chute and were able to successfully load her into a trailer. In the meantime, other volunteers were searching for her band and thankfully found her family nearby. They closed the horses into an area temporarily so a reunification could occur. When the trailer with the foal inside pulled up to the area where the band was enclosed, a wild mare whinnied to her baby and even stepped right into the scary trailer to retrieve her. After the foal nursed for a good while, the band happily moved off together. Please join us in expressing gratitude to the INCREDIBLE team of dedicated volunteers out on the Virginia Range in Nevada who are making a difference for wild horses every single day. ❤️

We often come to the internet to escape everyday stress. Fun stories and videos depicting cats and dogs doing silly things are our go-to for entertainment. However, we need these stories too. Not to bring us down, but to keep our pets safe and healthy. Sadly, for one dog owner, this story is her reality.

Christina Young recently said goodbye to her four-legged best friend, Petey, after a tragic mistake claimed his life. She wants other pet owners to know that this was 100% preventable, and for most of us, “this mistake” has already happened in our homes.

Young came home one day to what she thought would be her dog, happily wagging his tail at the door, ready for a game of fetch. Instead, she came home to a quiet house and her somber boyfriend, Christian, breaking devastating news. Young posted this on her Facebook page:

“As [Christian] walked in further he saw our sweet boy laying lifeless with a stupid chip bag over his head. He was able to get them off the counter that we will forever blame ourselves for leaving out. He ate every chip out but of course went back for crumbs…which made the bag tighter and tighter with there being nothing left inside every time he would go for more he would inhale making the bag tighter & tighter around his head.. ultimately resulting in suffocation.”

Young couldn’t understand how this could happen. Why didn’t Petey pull the bag off of his head with his paws? He was extremely smart and agile. So, she did research of her own and found information that NO ONE ever talks about. Young wants to spread the word so pet owners know the dangers of leaving potato chip, popcorn, cereal, bread and even dog treat bags lying around. They can pose a serious threat to our beloved animals.

Facebook/Christina Young

“3-5 pet suffocation’s get reported every week and 42% of those occur while the owner is in the next room. It only takes about 3 minutes for their oxygen to drop to fatal levels. With this happening so often we were so surprised by the lack of awareness on this topic out there.”

What’s even more shocking is that pet parents have no idea. No one talks about the dangers of these everyday food items and by the time many of these pet parents realize the hazards, it’s too late!

Both Young and her boyfriend Christian, want to spread awareness so one good thing can come out of this tragedy, so that others don’t have to suffer the same fate.

Facebook/Christina Young

“So I just ask that in honor of my boy Petey that you be extra careful, warn other dog owners & give your fur babies some extra love today and every day after this. I pray none of you ever have to experience your heartbreaking this way. We love you papas you were the best boy in the whole world & we will remember our good times forever”

In honor of Petey and his grieving parents, please share this story to protect other pets and pet parents from this hidden danger.

10 of the Smartest Dogs in the World:

A friend of mine has a beautiful Dalmatian. Friendly, energetic and lovable, she was a perfect family pet… but she wasn’t the smartest pooch on the planet. See, she knew how to go through the pet door out into the garden, but she had no clue how to get back inside. It never occurred to her that the flap could swing both ways. So she would sit outside and howl until my friend would open the door.

Repeated demonstrations of the dual movement of the flap had no effect; it just did not compute. The dog breeds on this list, however, probably don’t have that problem. They’re widely considered to be among the cleverest canines in the world. Take a look and see if you agree.

1. German Shepherd

Wikimedia Commons

No surprise here. German Shepherds are the world’s best police dogs, military dogs, and some have even been movie stars (remember Rin Tin Tin?). Brave, loyal, smart and strong, they’re the total package.

2. Beagle

Also on the list of the best family-friendly dogs in the world, the Beagle has an incredible nose that lets them sniff out just about anything. Born detectives, they’re not the most trainable pets, but they are smart. And hey, nobody ever accused Snoopy of being dumb.

3. Golden Retriever

A popular choice for assistance dogs for their easy temperament, natural intelligence and loyalty, Golden Retrievers are natural guides and also serve as great rescue dogs. Active and fun to be around, they’re wonderful family pets.

4. Border Collie

Border Collies are considered by many to be the geniuses of the dog world. Expert herders, laser-focused (they’re known for their intense stare), and incredibly agile to boot, they’re workaholics and excellent athletes. Just don’t expect to keep one cooped up in an apartment.

5. Poodle

Did you know poodles were originally hunting dogs? They respond very well to training and are quick to learn tricks. So don’t let the fluffy looks and styled mane fool you! These dogs are among the smart canines around. Plus, they’re among the best dogs in the world for those who suffer allergies.

6. Belgian Malinois

A terrific military dog, the Malinois is a natural herder, tracker and worker. Smart, trainable and protective, these dogs require an owner who knows what he or she is doing. In addition to the military, Malinois are often recruited as guard dogs and police dogs as well.

7. Papillon

Wikimedia Commons

Named for their butterfly-shaped ears, papillons are small, cute and pretty smart. They’re considered the smartest of the toy dog breed, with intelligence levels comparable to the über-smart border collie. They’re alert and focused pets, and loyal and lovable: an ideal friend for he family.

8. Doberman

MaxPixel

Sadly, Dobermans are known more for their ferocity than their smarts, but these are considered among the most intelligent dogs in the world, as well as one of the most effective guard dogs around. They’re outstanding students known to be affectionate and obedient.

9. Bloodhound

Wikimedia Commons

Don’t let the wrinkles and dopey expression fool you! Bloodhounds have the keenest of noses, and are often used for trailing (so much so that their evidence can be used in court against you!). These are loving but strong-willed dogs, and are often used on search and rescue missions.

10. Australian Cattle Dog

Wikimedia Commons

You need a smart, determined and energetic dog to control unruly cows. And that’s just what the Australian Cattle Dog, or ACD, does. They’re intelligent enough to herd these much larger creatures, and while they need their independence and wide open spaces, they’re eager workers who know how to get the job done.
