Woman Thought She Found A Homeless ‘Dog’ On Her Porch, When It “Wasn’t A Dog” At All

It’s not unusual to spot stray dogs in bad shape; we read about these sad stories all the time. So when Sharon Bertozzi spotted a sick dog curled up in a corner on her California porch for four hours, she was heartbroken, but not very surprised.

The surprise came later on when she realized that this “dog” was not actually a dog at all.

She immediately called the City of Folsom Animal Services to get the pup some help. When rescuers arrived, they took a closer look at this animal and discovered that this dog was really a young coyote with an awful case of mange.

They brought the coyote back to their clinic where she was treated for her mange and severe dehydration. They named her Princess and eventually transferred her to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue where she would receive further treatment.

There, they gave her a medicated bath to help with her irritated skin, and finally got her to start eating again. Her road to recovery would be a long one, but rescuers refused to give up on her.

Once Princess was back to good health, the rescue center planned to release her back into the wild. Once her hair had grown back and she was steadily improving, she was moved to Sierra Wildlife Rescue, where she was able to interact with other coyotes.

Soon after, Princess and her new coyote friends were released back into the wild on 800 acres of open roaming land.

Princess has come a long way from knocking at death’s door. Now she is a beautiful, healthy coyote!
