There’s no denying the fact that dogs love humans unconditionally. But in a recent study conducted by Canine Cottages, researchers were able to quantify the profound impact of human company on dogs.
While the final result is not surprising at all, it does solidify the divine love shared between humans and their furry companions!

The group conducting the study used heart rate tracking collars on 4 different dogs over 7 days to measure the fluctuations in their heartbeats.
Toward the end of the study, they found the following activities to be the habitual factors behind a dog’s increased heart rate:
1. Kissing, licking or curling up to you
2. Tail wagging greetings
3. Attention drawing behavior like pawing at you, resting head on you, or bringing you their favorite toy
4. Asking for or getting belly rubs
5. Being protective toward you
6. Consoling you when you’re in pain
7. Jumping on you
8. Chewing your belongings

While the chewing aspect can be fixed with some positive reinforcements and training, the list above is something many of us knew all along.
However, it’s the dog’s response to their human’s “I Love You” that’s totally mind blowing!
A dog’s average heartbeat is 67 beats per minute (bpm), but when they hear an “I Love You” from their human, it shoots up to 98 bpm!
Dogs get their high from a number of activities, but when it comes to decreasing their heart rate, nothing beats the old-school cuddling.
A simple snuggling session with their human makes dogs feel safe and calm, and their relaxed heartbeats drop down to a remarkable 52 bpm!

This study also measured the heart rates of the dog owners. It was found that dogs have a similar effect on their owners, with many humans registering a 10 percent spike in heart rates on seeing their dog after a long time.
Looks like dogs are meant to be our best friends for eternity!

Named for their butterfly-shaped ears, papillons are small, cute and pretty smart. They’re considered the smartest of the toy dog breed, with intelligence levels comparable to the über-smart border collie. They’re alert and focused pets, and loyal and lovable: an ideal friend for he family.

Sadly, Dobermans are known more for their ferocity than their smarts, but these are considered among the most intelligent dogs in the world, as well as one of the most effective guard dogs around. They’re outstanding students known to be affectionate and obedient.
9. Bloodhound

Don’t let the wrinkles and dopey expression fool you! Bloodhounds have the keenest of noses, and are often used for trailing (so much so that their evidence can be used in court against you!). These are loving but strong-willed dogs, and are often used on search and rescue missions.
10. Australian Cattle Dog

You need a smart, determined and energetic dog to control unruly cows. And that’s just what the Australian Cattle Dog, or ACD, does. They’re intelligent enough to herd these much larger creatures, and while they need their independence and wide open spaces, they’re eager workers who know how to get the job done.
