Animal Shelter Gets Honest About Super-Chonky Cat Looking for a Fresh Start

Meet Biscuit — a sweet and lovable cat with more to cuddle than most.

But Biscuit’s giant heart isn’t the only thing that’s oversized.

This week, staff at Idaho’s West Valley Humane Society shared some bittersweet news: just a year after finding her forever home, Biscuit was returned to the shelter — and not in the best shape.

When she was first adopted, Biscuit was already overweight. Sadly, her condition hadn’t improved at all.

“We need to be honest about Biscuit — she weighs just under 24 pounds, which is dangerously obese for a cat,” the shelter posted on social media. “If she doesn’t lose about half her body weight, her life will be shortened.”

Once again available for adoption, Biscuit needed a new family — but this time, with a clear understanding of what real love means: commitment to her health and happiness.

“She’s adorable, but we don’t want her adopted just because ‘chonky' is cute,” the shelter emphasized. “We want someone who’s head-over-heels for her and willing to help her reach a healthy weight through a proper diet, exercise, regular vet care, and lots of patience and love.”

The shelter made it clear: Biscuit’s adoption would be a project — but one absolutely worth taking on.

Volunteer Sue Anderson, who runs Black Cat Photography, gave Biscuit a little photoshoot to help her find the perfect match, sharing heartfelt photos along with a message about the bright future Biscuit deserved.

And it worked faster than anyone expected.

“Good news! Biscuit was just adopted,” Anderson told The Dodo. “She found her new family this morning, and I’m hopeful we’ll be able to share ‘after’ photos soon, showing a slimmer, healthier Biscuit.”

Now, Biscuit has a new lease on life — and with a little help and a lot of love, she’s well on her way to living her happiest, healthiest days.

“Biscuit is outgoing and curious,” Anderson said. “You can just see it in her face — this girl is ready to have some fun!”
