Shelter Dog With Unforgettable Face Is Just Looking for Someone to Love Him

When you meet Aardvark, it’s impossible not to smile. With his cartoonish face and flipper-like paws, he’s a walking bundle of joy — full of love, charm, and plenty of goofiness.

Aardvark was picked up as a stray on the streets of Baltimore in January and brought to the Maryland SPCA by a kind stranger. At just 8 months old, the 50-pound pup immediately stole the show.

“Honestly, nobody could take him seriously,” said Brittany Roger, digital specialist at the shelter. “His face and his personality inspired a lot of giggles.”

Shelter vets quickly discovered that Aardvark’s unusual appearance — especially his small, underdeveloped lower jaw — wasn’t the result of an injury. He was simply born this way.

“Most people assume he’s been through some sort of trauma,” Roger said. “But they’re relieved to learn that this is just how he came into the world — naturally beautiful.”

His facial difference doesn’t slow him down one bit. Aardvark eats like a champ, loves to chew on toys (without destroying them), and is overall a picture of health and happiness.

Even better than his lovable looks is his sunny, social personality. Aardvark thrives around people and other animals, eager to explore, play, and soak up attention.

“He’s an energetic, happy, social little dude,” Roger said. “We love dressing him up and taking him places — nothing fazes him.”

Despite his many charms, Aardvark hasn’t yet found a forever family. While a few people have expressed interest, each application has fallen through — never because of anything he’s done.

“He’s just had a string of bad luck,” Roger said. “He’s the kind of dog who could make friends with a brick wall. We know his perfect match is out there.”

Now, the shelter is hoping someone special will see past the quirks and recognize the one-of-a-kind love Aardvark has to offer.
