Alone and afraid, a lovable dog named Mr. Snufflufugus was recently found wandering the outskirts of Copperas Cove, Texas, clearly searching for safety and someone to trust.
Fortunately, local animal control officers were able to bring him to Copperas Cove Animal Control, where he quickly made it clear just how thankful he was — by offering the warmest hugs anyone had ever received.
As soon as he arrived, Mr. Snufflufugus bonded with Tamara Hall, the shelter’s animal control supervisor. During one of their play sessions, he climbed right into her lap and wrapped his paws around her in the sweetest embrace.
Fellow staff member Victoria Watkins-Killebrew happened to witness the touching moment — and immediately snapped a photo.
“Mr. Snufflufugus decided he needed a hug,” Hall told The Dodo. “He does love getting visits from everyone, but I’m his favorite. And being the favorite means I get all the extra-special hugs and kisses!”
This kind of affectionate behavior has become second nature for the friendly American bulldog mix, who has quickly earned a reputation as a first-class snuggler at the shelter.
“He’s a total cuddle bug,” Hall said. “If you’re on the floor, he’ll be in your lap or right beside you. He gives you this look — those sweet eyes — that’s impossible to resist.”
While Mr. Snufflufugus does enjoy a short stroll now and then, he’s happiest when he’s lounging around and soaking up attention.
“He loves brief walks,” Hall said, “but deep down, he’s a couch potato.”
After a photo of him hugging Hall went viral on social media, the shelter was flooded with adoption inquiries. Though Copperas Cove Animal Control is small and not equipped to handle such high demand, they’re now working to transfer Mr. Snufflufugus to a larger rescue organization that can help him find the perfect forever home.
Until then, he’s soaking up the love from staff and volunteers who continue to shower him with attention — and get plenty of hugs in return.
This sweet, snuggly dog is more than ready for his next chapter — and his future family should be prepared for lots of tail wags, kisses, and the best hugs of their lives.
