Woman Befriends Tiny Snake Who Moved Into Her Screen Door

One afternoon, Bootsy the cat was relaxing by the screen door when something unusual caught his eye — a tiny snake, trapped and struggling to escape through a small hole. He immediately alerted his mom, Melisa Taylor, who came over to investigate.

She found the little snake wedged into the screen, unable to wiggle his way out. Once he backed up into the hole for safety, Taylor grabbed a drill and carefully widened the opening to help him free himself.

“It only took a few minutes with a drill,” Taylor told The Dodo, “but it took Snickers about 30 minutes to feel safe enough to try to exit the bigger hole.”

Eventually, the grateful snake slithered off, and Taylor figured that would be the end of it.

But the next day, he returned.

“Surprisingly, he was back within the next day or so,” she said. “My cat spotted it again, poking out of the hole and looking in the window.”

The tiny snake — now named Snickers — had apparently claimed the screen door as his new home. Realizing he’d made himself comfortable, Taylor decided to make things official.

She put up a few lighthearted signs letting everyone know the screen was now Snickers’ territory — and that he was not to be disturbed.

The signs quickly became a hit.

“Most people laugh or think it’s cute and wholesome,” Taylor said. “I've been thanked a lot for rescuing him from the tiny hole.”

Though Taylor doesn’t see Snickers every day, she takes comfort knowing he’s nearby. Over time, he’s become part of the family — and an unexpected backyard protector.

“He scares the venomous snakes away from my yard, and I’m thankful for him,” she said.
