Man Thinks He’s Shooing Out a Bug — Then Realizes It’s a Tiny Treasure

After a hailstorm swept through his Florida neighborhood earlier this week, Reddit user Incompeplant opened his front door to let in some fresh air. The sun was finally shining again — but he wasn’t the only one eager to enjoy the calm after the storm.

That’s when he noticed a small speck hop through the open doorway.

“I thought it was just a little bug,” Incompeplant told The Dodo. “It moved fast — I almost didn’t notice it at all.”

He bent down to gently scoop it up and return it outside. But as he looked closer, something didn’t add up. This little creature didn’t have six legs like an insect — it had four.

And then it hit him: this wasn’t a bug. It was a frog. A teeny, tiny frog.

“If he was any smaller, I would’ve missed him,” Incompeplant said.

Curled in the palm of his hand, the frog was barely the size of a fingernail — so small that a single strand of dog hair looked massive beside him.

Curious to learn more, Incompeplant did some research and discovered that his unexpected houseguest was most likely a greenhouse frog, a species native to Florida.

Freshly morphed from a tadpole, this little amphibian might have only just begun life on land — perhaps even that very day.

“He seemed perfectly healthy,” Incompeplant said. “Just incredibly, unbelievably small.”

The frog was safely released back into the outdoors, where he belonged. But even after the tiny creature hopped away, he left a big impression.

“Nature is so beautiful,” Incompeplant reflected. “Everyone deserves appreciation and a fighting chance at life — even if you’re just a tiny frog trying to explore the world.”
