Two Massive Sea Lions Decide to Take a Boat Break

Who doesn’t love a relaxing day on the water?

Apparently, these two enormous sea lions do — though they took the idea to a whole new level.

While out boating on Washington’s Puget Sound, Joshua Phillips spotted something that made him do a double take: a pair of massive sea lions lounging on top of a small boat that clearly wasn’t built for passengers of their size.

It seems the giant marine mammals had been enjoying a swim when they decided to take a break, hoisting themselves onto the vessel for a sunny rest. The result? An unforgettable — and slightly absurd — scene that Phillips caught on video.

The sight also put just how huge these animals are into perspective. Sea lions can weigh up to 2,500 pounds and stretch 11 feet long — numbers that can make even a sturdy boat look like a toy.

As for who owns the boat or how long the unexpected visitors stayed, that part remains a mystery. But one thing’s for sure — these sea lions know how to make a splash on their day off.
