Dog With the Sweetest Pout Has Waited More Than 400 Days for a Forever Family

Meet Siri — a 3-year-old pup whose big pout and soulful eyes have captured every heart at the SPCA of Wake County.

She’s been waiting more than 400 days for a family to call her own, but through it all, her sweet spirit has only shined brighter.

“She’s just the sweetest thing,” said Samantha Ranlet, marketing communications specialist at the SPCA of Wake County.

Siri’s journey hasn’t been easy. She was surrendered after spending her entire life outdoors with another dog.

When the two began fighting over food, her family brought Siri to a small shelter in North Carolina, hoping someone else could give her a chance.

The staff there adored her, but they didn’t have the space or resources to keep her long-term.

That’s when the SPCA of Wake County stepped in.

“We pull pets from our partner shelters in order to give them more time to find a home,” Ranlet explained. “In Siri’s case, that ended up being really important. She did need that extra time.”

Once at the SPCA, staff immediately began working to find Siri a home. Over 13 months, 11 families expressed interest — but, one by one, the adoptions fell through.

Part of the challenge is that Siri prefers to be the only dog in the home. After her difficult past, she’s wary of other dogs and doesn’t want to share her space.

“We’re trying to find a home for her that can take a dog who doesn’t want to be around other dogs,” Ranlet said. “One that doesn’t have another dog in the home.”

While she waits, Siri spends her days soaking up attention from her caregivers, who can’t help but spoil her. She loves simple joys — cuddles, chew toys, and tasty snacks — and her famous frown has become irresistible to everyone she meets.

“Her frown has superpowers,” Ranlet laughed. “It’s really hard to look at her big, pouty eyes and not give her everything she wants.”

For a short time, Siri stayed in a foster home, and she immediately bonded with her foster dad. That glimpse into home life proved just how much love Siri has to give when she feels safe and secure.

“She’s really easygoing and not very energetic,” Ranlet said. “She’s just a lovely girl who wants a calm home where she can be loved.”

Though she hasn’t yet found her forever family, the staff at SPCA of Wake County continue to shower Siri with affection — and they hold onto hope that the right person will see past her pout and realize what a treasure she truly is.

“She’s got powers over all of us,” Ranlet said. “We love her so much.”
