Tiny Frog Wanders Into Woman’s Kitchen — And Never Leaves

When Michele M. returned home for a visit a few years ago, she was surprised to discover her mom had a very unusual new roommate. He wasn’t a cat or a dog — but a little green frog who had somehow hopped his way inside.

Her mom was instantly smitten.

“She claims it was love at first sight!” Michele told The Dodo.

The frog was quickly given a name — Robbie — and though no one knew exactly where he’d come from, he decided to stay.

Michele’s mom keeps a cluster of potted plants in her sunny kitchen window, and one day in 2023, Robbie simply appeared among the leaves.

Maybe he’d been hitchhiking on a plant, maybe he just wandered in through a crack — either way, the cozy, plant-filled window felt like home.

From that day on, Robbie settled in like he belonged.

He spends his days exploring the old Southern house, happily snacking on mosquitoes, spiders, and whatever tiny bugs happen to cross his path.

The arrangement works out perfectly — he gets a steady buffet of treats, and Michele’s mom gets free pest control for both her house and her plants.

“We live in the deep, muggy south, so there is a constant supply of mosquitoes and spiders for him,” Michele said. “The house is also super big and super old, so there's always a treat for him hidden somewhere.”

But it’s not just convenience that makes Robbie special. Over time, he’s become part of the family.

“When she can’t find him, she’ll whistle a little tune,” Michele said. “And within minutes, he’ll show up.”

Safe inside, with plenty of food and a big house to roam, Robbie has everything a frog could want.

And Michele’s mom has the joy of his unexpected companionship.

“The plants are definitely healthier because of his pest control,” Michele said.

“She loves him as if he is another member of the family,” Michele said. “She would cry if anything were to happen to him.”

In the end, it seems Michele’s mom may have found her prince — and she’s perfectly happy for him to stay a frog forever.
