When a volunteer arrived at Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC) one morning, she was stopped by a man claiming he had dogs to surrender. She stepped inside briefly to grab paperwork — but when she returned, the man was gone.
Puzzled, she scanned the shelter grounds. That’s when she noticed two tiny puppies huddled against the fence of the outdoor play area, shaking with fear.
“They were huddled together and cowering,” a Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control representative told The Dodo. “Clearly fearful.”

Staff quickly searched the property, worried more puppies might have been abandoned.
“Instead of an Easter egg hunt, our staff at DACC went on a hunt for dumped puppies,” a Detroit Animal Care and Control staff member wrote in a post on Facebook.

But thankfully only the pair had been left behind. They were brought inside, given food and water, and it didn’t take long for their spirits to lift.

“They are doing much better,” the representative said. “They were happy to eat and start playing with toys.”
Once safe, the siblings were transferred to Loving Hands Pet Rescue, where they could continue healing in foster care.
The brown pup, now named Zeus, quickly found his forever family.
“Zeus is the perfect addition to their family and is going to be beyond loved and spoiled,” Loving Hands shared on Facebook.
His brother, now called SpongeBob, is still waiting for his match — but he’s thriving in foster care.
“SpongeBob loves to play with other puppies and children, both outside and with toys,” Loving Hands wrote. “He’s doing great with potty training and crate training.”
Though their story began with fear and abandonment, both puppies are now surrounded by love — and a future full of promise.
