Woman Spots Elderly Dog Lying Beside A Cone — Then Realizes The Heartbreaking Truth

When rescuer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, received a call about an abandoned dog in a Los Angeles park, she thought she’d seen it all. But nothing could’ve prepared her for what she was about to hear.

“This poor boy was tied with a screwdriver to an orange cone in a park … for two days,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

The senior cocker spaniel had been tethered to the cone by a wire, left to lie helplessly beside a tray of food that caring neighbors had placed nearby. Though they meant well, no one had taken the next step to actually free him.

“So many people just walked past him … left him lying there in pain, unseen and unloved,” Hall wrote.

Finally, one of Hall’s volunteers, Mary, rushed to the park. When she arrived, she found the dog exhausted and weak, his spirit fading. She crouched down beside him, softly speaking words of comfort and offering treats until he trusted her enough to approach. Then, gently, she freed him from the wire.

“Thank God for Mary,” Hall said. “She scooped him up in her arms and saved him before something worse happened.”

But as Mary lifted the dog — now named Landon — she saw just how much he was suffering. One of his eyes was badly infected, and he was clearly in pain.

“I cannot, I will not, turn away from him,” Hall vowed.

Mary rushed Landon to the vet, while Hall began fundraising for his care. Tests revealed he was battling severe pancreatitis, an ear infection, and eye issues that required immediate treatment.

Thanks to the kindness of supporters, Landon got the medical help he desperately needed. And soon, the transformation began.

“The pain he endured out there in that park for two long days just makes me cry,” Hall wrote. “He’s an older soul who should have been resting in comfort and love — not suffering in pain and abandonment.”

With each passing day, Landon’s body healed — and so did his heart. The once-defeated senior started wagging his tail, playing again, and greeting his rescuers with soft, grateful eyes.

“Through it all, I never gave up on him … and he never gave up, either,” Hall said. “He’s gentle, grateful, and oh so sweet.”

Now fully recovered, Landon is finally ready to start the next chapter of his life — one filled with love, warmth, and family.

“After everything he’s endured, it’s finally his time,” Hall wrote. “His time to know love. His time to be cherished. His time to live the life he’s always deserved.”
