Driver Spots Laundry Basket On Roadside — Then Sees A Tiny Nose Peek Out

Earlier this week, a woman driving down a quiet street in Connecticut noticed something odd near the edge of the road — a laundry basket, half-filled with blankets and a bath mat, sitting all alone.

At first, she thought it was just discarded household junk. But then, something inside moved.

“She noticed a nose sticking out of one of the holes in the laundry basket,” Ledyard Animal Control Officer Heather Haddon told The Dodo.

The driver immediately pulled over and called for help.

When she lifted the blankets, she was stunned — two cats were huddled together inside, left on the roadside like trash.

“My initial reaction was sadness,” Haddon said. “I felt instant disappointment and heartbreak when I saw them in the basket. The cats were clearly terrified.”

No one knows exactly how the pair ended up there, but Haddon believes they were once beloved pets.

“They’re very clean, show no signs of ever living outdoors, and are incredibly well socialized,” she said.

Haddon gently coaxed the frightened cats out and brought them to safety. Almost instantly, their fear began to melt away.

“They’ve been extremely friendly from the start,” she said. “They purr the moment they’re touched, eat well, use their litter box, and snuggle together in their bed.”

Now safe at Ledyard Animal Control, the cats are receiving veterinary care while officers investigate where they came from. If no one claims them, they’ll soon be available for adoption — together.

“I have high hopes for these two,” Haddon said. “They’re a bonded pair, and I’ll make sure they stay that way. They’ll have no trouble finding the forever home they deserve.”
