Sometimes people judge a dog by his looks — and in Hades’ case, that often means unfair assumptions.
But recently, this gentle pit bull from Mexico showed the world exactly what kind of heart beats beneath his strong exterior.

Hades lives with his owner, Juan José P. Flores, in a quiet neighborhood where a shy stray cat has wandered for years.
Though she always kept her distance, Flores made sure she never went hungry, leaving food out for her every day.
That small act of kindness didn’t go unnoticed — especially by Hades.

One afternoon, Flores heard an unusual knocking at the back door where Hades liked to lounge. Expecting a visitor, he went to look — and found his dog wagging anxiously, clearly eager to show him something.
“He was desperate and making a lot of noise,” Flores told The Dodo.
Following Hades outside, Flores discovered a heartwarming surprise: the stray cat had taken shelter inside Hades’ doghouse. The clever pit bull had invited her in himself.

As it turned out, the cat was pregnant — and she’d found the perfect, safe place to give birth.
“I was very surprised,” Flores said.

When the big moment came, Hades stayed right beside her. He dragged a blanket to the doorway and settled down just outside, standing guard as she went into labor.
“She felt protected by him,” Flores said.
Under Hades’ watchful eyes, the cat gave birth to two healthy kittens.

The little family nestled comfortably inside the cozy doghouse, surrounded by warmth and safety.
“I think he felt like he was a father,” Flores said with a smile.

Flores later moved the new mom — now named Nicol — and her babies into the main house, where he and Hades could help care for them.
Since then, a sweet friendship has blossomed between the gentle pit bull and Nicol. When she isn’t tending to her kittens, she and Hades can often be found relaxing together.
Hades seems completely at peace now that his feline family is safe and loved.

When the kittens are old enough, Flores plans to find them loving homes — but Nicol will stay right where she belongs, with Hades and Flores.
Flores hopes his dog’s compassion inspires people to see pit bulls in a new light.
“Pit bulls are good dogs,” he said. “Hades put everything aside to help someone else. We should do the same — expecting nothing in return.”
