A routine walk through a field in Tow Law, England, took an unexpected turn when a man’s dog suddenly froze beside an old stone wall and refused to move on.
Curious, the owner stepped closer — and that’s when he saw him.
Wedged deep inside the wall was a cat, somehow squeezed into a narrow gap between the stones and completely unable to escape on his own.
The RSPCA was called immediately, and Inspector Ruth Thomas-Coxon rushed to the scene. At first glance, she hoped the rescue would be simple — maybe the cat had just tucked himself into a cozy hiding spot.
But it quickly became clear that this was no casual nap.

“Initially it looked like he’d chosen to hide there,” Thomas-Coxon said in a press release. “But he didn’t try to run away when we approached, which told us something was wrong.”
The cat — later named Freddy — was firmly stuck. No amount of gentle coaxing would free him.
After assessing the situation, Thomas-Coxon made a bold but necessary decision: the wall would have to come apart.

With the permission and help of the landowner, the team carefully removed stones from the top of the wall, dismantling it piece by piece until Freddy could finally wriggle free.
The moment he was out, Freddy made a quick dash into another section of the wall — but this time, rescuers were ready and safely caught him.
Though clearly shaken and not thrilled about the unexpected attention, Freddy soon realized he was no longer trapped. Once calm, he was taken straight to a veterinarian for a checkup.

Thankfully, Freddy was in pretty good shape.
“Other than some matted fur, which we removed, he was a sweet and friendly cat,” Thomas-Coxon said. “That made us think he might be someone’s missing pet.”
Unfortunately, Freddy wasn’t microchipped, and despite posters, local inquiries and online listings, no one has come forward to claim him yet.
For now, Freddy is settling into shelter life — safe, warm and no longer wedged between stones. And if his family doesn’t turn up, he’ll soon be looking for a forever home of his own.
From being trapped inside a stone wall to getting a second chance at love, Freddy’s journey has already come a long way.
