When Layla and Lola first arrived at their local animal shelter, the bonded sisters stayed close, certain their family would come back for them.
And at first, they were right.
Their humans returned and took them home — but the relief didn’t last. Layla and Lola were brought back to the shelter not once, but two more times. By the third stay, it became clear that this time was different.
This time, no one was coming.
Heartbroken and confused, the sisters found comfort only in each other. Curled up side by side, they waited day after day, hoping for the miracle they didn’t know they desperately needed.

Meanwhile, that miracle was already in motion.
When Humans and Animals United (HAAU) spotted a photo of Layla and Lola, their hearts sank. Time was running out for the girls, and they needed help fast. Rosa Fond, HAAU’s founder, immediately sprang into action — raising emergency funds and searching tirelessly for a foster home willing to take in both dogs together.
The sisters had no idea any of this was happening.

They settled in for what they thought would be another long night at the shelter, unaware that it would be their last.
The next morning, HAAU volunteers arrived.
As the kennel doors opened, Layla and Lola’s fear turned into excitement. Their tails wagged wildly as they stepped out together, finally leaving the place that had held so much heartbreak behind.
“Seeing them leave the shelter that kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes,” HAAU wrote on Facebook. “The girls have a new beginning, and this time, it will be a forever happily ever after.”

From the shelter, the sisters were taken to a veterinary clinic for full exams. Both passed with flying colors, officially clearing the way for foster care.
Then came another win: a kind-hearted foster family stepped up, ready to welcome both girls for as long as needed.
“They are bonded. We would never separate them,” HAAU wrote. “They need and depend on each other. It’s the only way to do right by these girls.”

Once in foster care, Layla and Lola wasted no time settling in. Surrounded by warmth, safety and affection, the sisters bloomed — finally able to relax, play and dream again.
They’re still waiting for a forever home, but for now, they’re exactly where they need to be.
“As promised, these girls have been kept together,” HAAU shared. “Fully vetted, they are settling in perfectly at their foster home.”

Their journey isn’t over yet — but thanks to a rescue that refused to give up on them, Layla and Lola’s future is brighter than ever.
“They are definitely lucky girls,” HAAU wrote.
