When Brazilian writer Aline Magnani wasn’t feeling well last week, she decided to work from home instead of riding her motorcycle to the office.
the time, it felt like a small change in routine — but it ended up making all the difference for someone else.

A few days later, once she was feeling better, Magnani grabbed her helmet and bag, ready to head out the door. That’s when she noticed her motorcycle wasn’t quite empty.
Perched calmly near the handlebars was a small turtledove, looking right back at her.

“I asked, ‘What are you doing here?’” Magnani told The Dodo. “It was funny because the bird stood up and moved to another part of the motorcycle. I felt like it was trying to show me why she was there.”
And that’s when Magnani understood. As the bird shifted, she revealed a tiny nest — complete with eggs tucked safely inside.
“When she stood up, I saw the eggs,” Magnani said. “It was pretty cute. I felt like she was explaining why she couldn’t leave.”
Magnani depends on her motorcycle to get to work, but there was no way she could bring herself to disturb the devoted mama bird. So instead of moving the nest, she changed her plans.
From that day on, Magnani arranged rides with her boyfriend and adjusted her daily routine, all to make sure the bird could stay exactly where she was.

If everything goes smoothly, it may be a few weeks before the eggs hatch and the turtledove moves on. And Magnani doesn’t mind waiting at all.
“I feel like the mom needs my help,” she said. “I’m ordering food instead of going out, and planning my day around my boyfriend’s availability. I’m doing what I can to help.”
For now, her motorcycle has become a nursery — and a quiet reminder that sometimes the kindest thing to do is simply make space.
