When Collins arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA), it was clear he’d endured more pain than any animal ever should.
“Collins came to us from a place of unimaginable cruelty,” the PSPCA shared on Facebook. “He arrived in very rough shape — severely underweight, vomiting and completely broken in spirit.”
Yet despite everything he’d suffered, Collins didn’t retreat from people. Instead, the moment he saw kindness, he surrendered to it.
As staff members approached him, Collins collapsed into their arms, desperate to be close to someone — anyone — who cared.
“It’s not standard to lie on the floor with dogs, but this guy was craving human attention,” Lindsey King, volunteer programs manager at the PSPCA, told The Dodo. “After all he went through, he was still the sweetest, most lovable dog.”

From that moment on, staff knew Collins was extraordinary. As he healed, both physically and emotionally, his true personality began to shine.
“Collins really is the whole package,” King said. “He loves toys and chewing on bones, but he also loves just sitting with you and cuddling. He’s playful, spunky and incredibly affectionate.”

With consistent care, safety and love, Collins continued to blossom. Soon, the only thing missing was a family to call his own.

That wait didn’t last long.
“It was no surprise that his family saw what we saw immediately,” King said. “They were looking for a big, lovable pittie, and the connection was instant.”

Today, Collins no longer has to survive on his own. He gets to spend his days surrounded by love, comfort and security — something he always deserved.
To support dogs like Collins, donations can be made to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
