Returned For ‘Too Many Cuddles,’ This Cat Finds The Perfect Lap Just In Time For Christmas

When Julia Wood stopped by an adoption event the other day, one particular cat immediately caught her eye.

In a kennel near the front sat a black-and-white cat pressing herself against the glass, rolling over, purring and practically begging for affection from anyone who walked past.

Wood stepped closer — and that’s when she saw the note attached to the kennel.

The cat’s name was Ellie. She had already been adopted once.

And then she was returned.

The reason? She was “too affectionate.”

“I just felt so sorry for her,” Wood told The Dodo. “She was rubbing against the glass, rolling around and purring. I couldn’t believe she was up for adoption.”

According to the note, Ellie’s previous family felt she wanted too much attention. For a cat whose love language was constant cuddles, that rejection must have been confusing.

Wood couldn’t stop thinking about her. So she took a few photos and shared Ellie’s story online.

Within hours, everything changed.

The post quickly went viral, reaching thousands of people — including Sammi Schouler.

“I was heartbroken,” Schouler said. “When I read that she’d been returned for wanting too many snuggles, I just knew she would fit in perfectly here. I could give her all the love and attention she wants.”

Without hesitation, Schouler headed to the adoption event and brought Ellie home.

This time, there would be no such thing as “too cuddly.”

Ellie settled in almost immediately. Instead of being kept at arm’s length, she was welcomed with open arms — and an open bed.

“She’s settling in so well,” Schouler said.

At night, Ellie curls up right where she belongs — beside her new mom’s head, purring herself to sleep.

“She enjoys sleeping on the bed with me,” Schouler shared. “She just loves being close.”

Christmas may still be days away, but Ellie has already received the greatest gift imaginable: a home where her affection isn’t just tolerated — it’s treasured.

And she isn’t the only one feeling emotional about her happy ending.

“When I saw she was getting adopted, I cried a little,” Wood said. “I love seeing updates on her. She looks so happy, getting all the cuddles she wants. I’m just so happy for her and her new family.”

For Ellie, being “too affectionate” turned out to be exactly what led her to the perfect person — just in time for the holidays.
