Riddle is an Arabian/Quarter horse mix whose miraculous rescue and recovery by the Longmeadow Rescue Ranch became a viral internet sensation
When rescued from a neglect and abuse case in New Madrid, MO, Riddle was severely emaciated (weighing only 393 pounds) and close to death. He had no muscle, making him too weak to stand or even lift his head on his own.
The ranch staff provided round-the-clock care, lifting him daily and feeding him a specialized diet of alfalfa hay and grains six times a day. For weeks, the focus was simple: small amounts of food, helping him stand, and doing everything possible to keep him alive.
Within two weeks, Riddle built enough muscle to stand on his own. And after a few months of steady care, Riddle was strong enough to run again — a milestone that once felt impossible when he first arrived ![]()
