Family Discovers Shaking Dog Left In Their Yard — Then Reads The Heartbreaking Note Beside Her

Earlier this year, a frightened gray-and-white pit bull wandered into a family’s yard in Darlington County carrying more than just fear in her eyes.

Attached to the trembling dog was a handwritten note that immediately broke the family’s hearts.

Unsure of what else to do, they carefully brought the pup to Darlington County Humane Society, where staff members quickly realized this wasn’t a typical abandonment case.

“She was left in their yard with a note,” Danielle Cahn from the shelter explained.

The shelter team has cared for many abandoned animals over the years, but finding a personal message from an owner is rare. As staff unfolded the paper, they learned just how loved the dog had once been.

“Hi, sorry for dropping Queeni in your yard this morning, but I can’t care for her no longer,” the note began. “Please take care of her.”

The letter went on to describe Queeni’s favorite things: spending time outside, chewing on her plastic bone, and cuddling up to watch TV with her humans.

The message painted a picture of a sweet dog whose owner had likely run out of options.

But despite the loving words, Queeni was clearly devastated.

“She was very nervous during intake,” Cahn said. “Once she was in her kennel, she just crouched on her bed and trembled.”

The shelter staff knew the frightened pup needed patience more than anything else. Day after day, they sat with her, offered treats, spoke softly, and reassured her that she was finally safe.

Slowly, Queeni began to come out of her shell.

“She is still quiet and nervous,” Cahn explained, “but now she comes to the front of her kennel to greet people and ask for cookies.”

As her confidence grew, Queeni also started meeting other dogs for the first time. Before long, the once-shaking pup was making friends and learning how to play.

“She is making new friends and gaining confidence every day,” Cahn said.

Even so, her caregivers believe Queeni still misses the comfort of a quiet home, relaxing beside someone who loves her.

Queeni is currently receiving treatment for heartworm disease, which means she needs additional medical care and plenty of rest while she heals. Thankfully, the team at Darlington County Humane Society is committed to giving her all the support she needs until the right family comes along.

For now, the sweet dog who arrived trembling and confused is finally beginning to trust again.

And everyone who meets her agrees on one thing:

“She is a sweet girl,” Cahn said.
