A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter spotted the trapped dog on a structural member in the middle of the rapid waters while conducting an unrelated search.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department (SBCoFD) deployed a swift water rescue team, an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) unit, and medic ambulances to the scene.
Firefighters suited up in specialized water rescue gear, lowered a rescuer down to the dog, safely secured a specialty harness around it, and successfully lifted the dog over the railing to safety and reunited with its family.
