When a cat named Chance arrived at the MSPCA-Angell adoption center in Salem, staff immediately fell in love with his sweet personality.
Then they noticed something else that made him even more unforgettable.
Chance had been born with front legs bent at nearly 90-degree angles, giving him the appearance of having tiny “T-Rex arms.”
“Everyone thought he was adorable,” said Celia Jepsky of MSPCA-Angell. “Once we noticed his legs, we loved him even more.”
After examining him, the shelter confirmed that Chance had been born with the condition. Thankfully, it wasn't causing him any pain.
His unusual legs were simply the way he'd always been.
“Chance's arms have been like this his whole life,” Jepsky explained. “He knows no different.”
Despite his unique appearance, Chance refused to let anything slow him down.
While he occasionally appreciated a little help reaching higher places, he could still climb tall cat trees, explore his surroundings, and play just like any other curious feline.
His disability certainly didn't define him.
Shelter staff assumed such a friendly, affectionate cat would find a home almost immediately.
Instead, the applications never came.
Day after day, Chance waited while other cats were adopted.
Hoping to help him get noticed, the shelter shared his story on social media.
That's when Katrina saw him.
She has always had a soft spot for animals with disabilities and immediately felt drawn to the charming cat with the unusual little arms. After showing the video to her partner, Gregg, the decision was easy.
They were going to bring Chance home.
The transition couldn't have gone better.
Chance quickly settled into life with his new family, joining a lively household that already included two dogs, another cat, and even two pet rats.
Rather than being intimidated, Chance embraced his new surroundings one careful introduction at a time.
“Chance has been acclimating well at home,” Gregg and Katrina shared.
His family has also discovered one of his favorite things in the world.
Ear scratches.
And butt scratches.
The affectionate cat happily leans into every bit of attention he can get, soaking up the love he waited so patiently to find.
For the family, Chance's bent little legs were never something that needed fixing.
They were simply part of what made him special.
After waiting for someone to see beyond his appearance, Chance finally found exactly where he belongs—with people who love him just the way he is.
