Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, is no stranger to urgent calls about stray dogs across Southern California. But one recent message from Orange County stopped her cold.
A Good Samaritan had discovered three tiny dogs abandoned on a vacant property in Compton — and the frightened pups were huddled together, refusing to separate as they waited for help to arrive.

The moment Hall saw their photo, she knew the rescue wouldn’t be easy. Catching one terrified dog can be difficult enough; rescuing three bonded pups would take patience, strategy and a lot of heart.
“It was beyond heartbreaking to see,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “They are all so tiny.”

Before Hall could reach them, mechanical trouble temporarily sidelined her rescue vehicle. During the delay, her friend Mary Nakiso stepped in, visiting the pups nightly and leaving them nourishing food so they wouldn’t go hungry.
When Hall finally arrived at the property, she was struck by how devoted the dogs were to one another.
“They were so scared, but they had each other,” Hall wrote. “And boy, do they love each other.”

Speaking softly and keeping her distance, Hall worked out a plan. She managed to secure the smallest pup first, naming him Oscar, while Nakiso focused on earning the trust of the middle pup. That little girl, later named Jolene, quickly warmed up to her rescuer.
“The little girl loved Mary so much, and Mary was able to get her,” Hall said.

Oscar and Jolene were safely placed in Hall’s van, but their bigger brother wasn’t ready to surrender just yet. The third pup, later named Ollie, was overwhelmed with fear and kept darting back into the garage.
“He was so beyond scared,” Hall wrote.
To avoid pushing him further, Hall and Nakiso brought Oscar and Jolene to Camino Pet Hospital, then returned later with a humane trap set near Ollie’s hiding spot. By morning, Hall found Ollie waiting inside the trap.

Relieved, she rushed him to the vet, where he was reunited with his siblings.
“They were all so scared. So cold. So hungry,” Hall wrote. “But they were finally all safe. They had each other again.”

After receiving clean bills of health, the trio moved into a foster home together, where Hall’s friend Genavie Ochoa has been caring for them. While Ollie remains shy, Oscar and Jolene are slowly blossoming, soaking up affection and learning that humans can be kind.
“Ollie is so scared, but the other two are so sweet and love belly rubs,” Hall told The Dodo. “These poor babies went through so much.”

For now, the pups are safe, warm and curled up together — just the way they prefer it. Hall hopes they’ll soon find a forever family willing to give all three the love and security they deserve.
“I’m sure they haven’t slept this good in a long time,” Hall wrote. “They are rescued and have each other.”
