Woody and Bear spent 12 years doing everything right — loving their family, being loyal companions, and sharing life side by side. But after more than a decade of devotion, they were suddenly left behind.
Earlier this week, the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana shared the heartbreaking story of the bonded pug mix brothers.
After spending their entire lives with one family, the 12-year-old dogs were surrendered — not due to illness or age, but, as the shelter put it, “a lack of commitment.”

Their world changed overnight. No more familiar smells, soft beds, or daily routines. Just a noisy shelter, unfamiliar faces, and confusion.
“They don’t understand what happened,” the shelter wrote. “Why the life they knew is gone. Why, after being such good boys, they have to start all over again.”
Though their hearts may be broken, Woody and Bear still have each other — and an incredible amount of love to give.

The Humane Society is now doing everything it can to keep the pair together and find them a home where they can spend their golden years in peace, comfort, and care.
“These boys are gentle, loving, and deserve a soft landing after such a jarring loss,” the shelter wrote. “All they want is to be together, side by side, in a warm, safe place where they’re cherished.”
They may be seniors, but Woody and Bear still have plenty of tail wags, cuddles, and affection to share. All they need is someone willing to open their heart — and their home — to two older dogs who’ve already given a lifetime of love.
