While working on a property recently, a tree trimmer in mid-task noticed something unexpected clinging tightly to the branches — a tiny black squirrel who wasn’t ready to say goodbye to her home.
“She refused to go,” Theresa Carroll, founder of Halfway Home Wildlife Rehab, shared on Facebook.

The little squirrel, clearly young and without her mother nearby, had no idea what was happening.
Despite the chaos around her, she stayed put, refusing to leave the only home she'd ever known. Thankfully, the worker stopped immediately and gently removed the frightened baby from the tree.
She was soon brought to Halfway Home Wildlife Rehab, where Carroll and her team took her in.
“She was understandably scared, but otherwise in great shape,” Carroll said. “She had no injuries — just shy and confused.”

Now safe and cared for, the resilient squirrel is adjusting to her temporary surroundings. Though still timid, she’s doing well and gaining strength every day.
“She’ll be released in about a month, right here on our property,” Carroll said, noting that a safe new tree will soon become her next home.
