When photographer Baylee Dalton pulled up to a farm in Sparta, Tennessee, for an engagement session, she was greeted immediately — not by the couple, but by a friendly farm cat named KitKat.
He hopped right into her car as if checking her in for the appointment, then followed her around while she set up. Baylee figured he might make a cameo or two.
She had no idea he planned to be the star.
“When the couple saw KitKat trailing behind us into the field, they were thrilled,” Dalton told The Dodo. “They love cats and hoped he’d be in a few photos — we just didn’t know he’d steal the show.”
From the very first shot, KitKat inserted himself into nearly every frame — posing, lurking, photobombing, and generally behaving like the world’s most adorable furry diva. He absolutely soaked up the attention, thrilled to be part of the couple’s big moment.
It wasn’t until Dalton began editing the photos that she realized just how committed KitKat had been.
“Once I started editing, I realized he was in, like, 75% of the photos,” Dalton said. “The couple loved it — they loved him being in all the shots!”
Dalton posted a few of the photos online to promote her photography business, BG Photography, and the internet immediately became obsessed.
People began turning the engagement gallery into a game, trying to spot KitKat in each picture like a real-life “Where’s Waldo?”
The question on many viewers’ minds: Did the couple — or Dalton — take KitKat home?
Nope. KitKat already has a wonderful life as the farm’s beloved barn cat.
“Barn cats are just as loved as indoor cats,” Dalton explained. “They just get more mouse entertainment opportunities.”
Looking back, Dalton says the spontaneous chaos made the shoot unforgettable. It might not have been the session any of them expected — but KitKat wouldn’t have had it any other way.
