Rory has always been a bit of a mystery. Found as a kitten living under a porch, the little orange cat grew up with a streak of independence and a talent for getting into mischief.
He can be sweet and cuddly — but just as easily found somewhere he shouldn’t be.
So when Rory’s mom walked into the room one day and saw him lounging on the floor, she wasn’t immediately alarmed. That changed in an instant.
“I thought I was seeing something terrible,” she later said.
From across the room, it looked like Rory’s front leg had somehow become detached — and was lying a few inches away from his body. She panicked.
But within seconds, relief washed over her.
It wasn’t a paw at all. It was a dog toy. Rory had tucked one of his front legs under his body, and the toy had landed just in the right spot to create a very convincing — and very alarming — optical illusion.
Meanwhile, Rory didn’t even blink. He stayed completely relaxed through the entire false emergency, blissfully unaware that his mom’s heart had just stopped for a second.
It was just another quirky moment in the life of a cat who always seems to keep his family on their toes.
