Construction Workers Spot a Face Between Boulders — and Immediately Call for Help

While working on a routine project in Valley Center, San Diego, a construction crew was startled by unexpected cries echoing from a nearby cluster of large boulders.

Curious and concerned, they followed the sounds — and what they found broke their hearts.

Wedged tightly between two massive rocks was a terrified puppy, his face just barely visible.

The crew wasted no time and called for backup. Soon, responders from San Diego County Animal Services and Valley Center Fire Department were on the scene, ready to rescue the trapped pup.

A Delicate Operation

At first, rescuers tried to lift the puppy out with a rope, but he was stuck too tightly. They then tried to gently slide him out using soapy water to reduce friction. After more than an hour of careful maneuvering, the exhausted little dog was finally freed.

“He was affectionate and tired,” said a representative from the County of San Diego Public Safety Group. “The officer let him ride in the cab of the truck, and he cuddled next to the officer’s lap on the way to the shelter.”

A New Name, a New Life

The pup was taken to the San Diego Department of Animal Services shelter in Carlsbad, where staff named him Snack. After a full medical evaluation, plenty of rest, and lots of cuddles, Snack was ready to find a forever home.

And it didn’t take long — as soon as his adoption listing went up, one family fell in love and rushed to meet him. The connection was instant.

Now, Snack is living the good life with a family that adores him. He’s safe, happy, and surrounded by love — and hopefully steering clear of any more tight spots.
