In Huntington, Indiana, Jenny McMillan’s backyard is a favorite hangout spot for white-tailed deer — especially in the winter, when they paw through the snow in search of food.
But one recent visit left McMillan completely baffled.

Looking out her family room window, she spotted a deer that seemed to be doing the impossible: hiding its entire body behind a tree far too skinny to cover it. From her view, only the deer’s head was visible, as if the rest of its body had simply vanished.
“I have no idea how to make a body go missing in a photo,” McMillan laughed. “I’m an old lady. It was just taken at the right moment.”

She snapped a photo and shared it online, and soon the internet was just as puzzled as she was.
Commenters scrambled to explain the optical illusion. Some joked that the deer must’ve been balancing on its front legs…

Others suggested it had an unusually short body.

But no one could quite agree on what was really happening.
Whatever the explanation, the photo left people equal parts amused and amazed.
It seems this clever deer had pulled off the ultimate disappearing act — proving that sometimes, nature’s best magic tricks are simply a matter of perspective.
