On a warm June morning in St. Louis, Missouri, a few concerned neighbors noticed something unusual beneath a tree in their neighborhood — a brown and white dog sitting quietly in the shade, tethered tightly to the trunk with a long rope.

At first, they hoped someone had just left him there temporarily. But as the day wore on and no one returned, worry turned to heartbreak. They brought him snacks, then water, and by evening, it was clear: he’d been abandoned.
“By afternoon, they delivered a bowl of water,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) shared on Instagram. “By evening, they knew he was dumped.”

The call for help quickly went out, and SRSL’s rescue team, led by their chief life saving officer, Donna Lochmann, rushed to the scene. What they found was a sweet young pup with the saddest start — and the happiest tail.
“As soon as we saw him, we were smitten,” SRSL wrote. “We named him Beans, and he deserves so much better.”

Beans, just a year old, greeted his rescuers with a wagging tail and hopeful eyes. Despite being left alone, his spirit hadn’t dimmed. Lochmann gently untied the rope and led him to the safety of their car, where Beans beamed with joy.
“Your tail is very happy!” Lochmann said, smiling as Beans’ tail thumped wildly in response.

Once at the shelter, Beans was given a full check-up — and good news followed: he was healthy and ready to begin the next chapter of his life. It didn’t take long for him to melt the hearts of the entire staff.
“He has the cutest ears. The cutest paws. The cutest pink nose,” SRSL wrote. “Now all he needs is a family to tell him every day how loved he is.”

Beans is now thriving in a loving foster home, but he's still waiting for a forever family to find him. With his charm and gentle spirit, his rescuers are sure it won’t be long.
“We promise you will LOVE him,” SRSL said. “He’s the best.”
