When Colleen Harrison and her family brought home a tiny kitten named Casper, they weren’t quite sure how their dogs would react.
Their pittie, Minnie, is known for being the nurturing one — especially with small animals — but it turned out their younger pup, Rex, had other plans.
The moment Rex met Casper, it was love at first sight.
Rex is full of playful energy, and so is Casper. From day one, the two became inseparable, spending their time wrestling, playing, and snuggling together.
And right away, Rex made it clear: Casper was his kitten.
“At first, Rex didn't like anyone coming near the kitten,” Harrison told The Dodo. “He was very protective of him. He’s the same way with our children — any time they’re out of sight or in a room he can’t reach, he sits nearby and whines for them.”
Rex’s attachment to Casper was so strong, he even tried to hide the kitten from the rest of the family. Whenever they curled up together, Rex would subtly nudge Casper out of view, hoping no one else would notice.
Unfortunately for Rex, Casper is a wriggly little guy — and not so great at staying hidden.
Though Rex didn’t initially want to share his new best friend, he’s slowly grown more comfortable letting others interact with Casper — under his watchful eye, of course.
“Rex doesn't mind others holding or playing with the kitten now,” Harrison said. “But he keeps an eye on him at all times.”
Rex and Casper formed an instant bond that’s only gotten stronger. Now, the whole family is enjoying the sweet friendship blossoming between them — and they can’t wait to watch the pair grow up side by side.
